Memphis has a growing Chinese population with a mix of expatriates and retirees from the Delta as well as newer immigrants from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the People's Republic of China. The Chinese government funds Mandarin Chinese language programs at many universities through their Confucius Institutes.
I gave 3 presentations sponsored by the Confucius Institute on Sept. 13, one to a Memphis campus general audience, one to college students in an Honors Program, and one to the 5th grade class at the Campus School about what their history books left out about Chinese history in the U.S. and Canada.
