Presentations in Phoenix, AZ. to Desert Jade Women and to Asian American Studies, Ariz St. University, Tempe, AZ.
The Desert Jade Women's Group hosted my talk on Chinese in the South during a visit I made in 2008 to see my friends, Joe and Liz Chan, docents at Angel Island Immigration Station. CLICK to view more pictures from the event.
I also got to speak to a group at Arizona State University as well as to a class on Asian American Studies.
Talk at Writers Group, Lake Havasu City, AZ.
A presentation about Chinese Laundries and a tutorial on Publish on Demand and authoring software.
The engagement was largely due to the efforts by one of the contributors to Chinese Laundries, Lucy Leonard, who wrote about her family laundry experiences in Hawthorne, Ca.
Whereas most of my audiences have consisted of older Chinese, the Writers Group was mostly "lo-fan" or caucasian, which presented a nice challenge. Fortunately, the event was well-received and the audience felt enriched in learning many aspects of American history of which they had no prior exposure.
2018 Talk at Gilbert Historical Museum, Gilbert, AZ.
My Phoenix area friends, Lucy Wong, Peter Schumann, and Lisa Chow arranged the event at a wonderful venue.
